Gudrun is one of the selected artists to participate in the exhibition “European Sculpture - methods, materials, poetry”, at Edsvik Art Gallery in Sweden, May 5 – 27, 2012. 

..."We have received applications from all over Europe with a broad spectrum of methods and materials. 102 artists .applied and 47 were accepted with a total of 100 artworks".

A Decade of Sculpture in the Garden exhibition, has come to an end in the Harold Martin Botanic Garden University of Leicester.

For me there are two kinds of drawings.  The necessary accurate measurement working drawing, for the purpose of making a sculpture. And then it is the drawing that pleases my mind, with the freedom of expression.........................

Greenham - a long time achangin'

This is Changes by the Icelandic sculptor Gudrun Nielsen, a monumental piece that has just been unveiled at Greenham Common where US bombers used to land – you get the references just by looking at it. Since the Greenham Common women saw off the last of the Right Stuff in 1988 the trees have returned along with the birds and the rest of the flora and fauna, and the military buildings have either been demolished or converted by the Greenham Common Trust which now owns it.  Nielsen won a competition along with the late Michael Kenny, but that was 12 years ago and while Kenny’s large geometric form, Broken Symmetry, was unveiled almost immediately by Ringo Starr (a Kenny fan and local resident), Gudrun’s was a little tardy in taking off, as it were............... 17.11.2010 / Simon Tait's Diary

"Harold Martin Botanic Garden" This exhibition will be a reflection of the last 10 years of Sculpture in the Garden but will also present some of the most exceptional current contemporary practice and will again be curated by sculptor Dr John Sydney Carter FRBS.  The exhibition is being managed by Embrace Arts, the University of Leicester’s arts centre. Saturday 25 June to Sunday 30 October 2011 Image Skylight detail, exhibited in 2009 in the Botanic Garden.

Two new publick art works are celebrated at New Greenham Park........................Owing to inclement weather, about 50 guests, including the Icelandic ambassador were taken on a coach tour of the sculpture sites where the had been due to be ‘unveiled’, after the chairman of Greenham Common Trust, Sir Peter Michael, officially marked their completion.

 New sculpture for Greenham Common

It would have been impossible in decades gone by to have imagined anything at Greenham Common beyond the gigantic concrete runways, the nuclear bombers taking off, towering perimeter fences and the permanently encamped protestors. But how time has changed everything.

The site is by the main entrance of New Greenham Park within the 900 acres of the former military installation, the Greenham Common World war two airbase. The nine geometrical forms present movement along a path, the folding and the unfolding of the past. Material in the nine part origami sculpture is corten-steel, material in the plinths is recycled materials from the redundant military infrastructure, the runway. gn
